Yoga has a lingering stigma attached to it. Too many people, practicing yoga means that you have to be vegan, wear no make-up, or that you have to make swooshing tree noises while posing in a meadow…
However, the entrepreneurs of society have started to cotton on to the fact that it isn’t just the tie-dyed wearing hippy’s and the student soul searching backpackers in Asia posting on Instagram, that can benefit from this incredible physical and mental activity but can also help you dominate your career.
Yoga changed my life.
Not just with an improvement in my flexibility and reduction in back pain, but the mental clarity that I eventually came to realize, the more I practiced.
It’s not like it’s a miracle cure for overthinking. If you expect that you will be bitterly disappointed to be honest. Hey! I did a whole 30 minutes of yoga and sat down for 10 minutes with my eyes closed and I am still STRESSED out that I couldn’t stop thinking about work and laundry! If anyone tells you it is this miracle quick-cure, it’s not true.
However, what you will find, through the commitment (to yoga, but actually to yourself) whether it be 10 minutes or a 1-hour session, is that you start to notice space between all those thoughts buzzing around in your brain.
This space is BLISS.
Sweet, sweet Bliss. Not only are these moments peaceful, but they are also nourishing. Mind and body can just chill the hell out for a moment, enough to repair. These moments cannot be explained, they just have to be felt. You may feel like a nut just by sitting quietly by yourself. I did when I was first encouraged to do it. But my goodness, I began to notice the benefits after I committed myself to it!
Ok great, I’m more chilled, thanks! Wine does that right?! A massage does it too, what the big deal?! It’s different. I promise you. This peaceful space you learn to create teaches you so much about yourself. The thoughts that pop up, the feelings you start to notice around your body. It’s actually pretty awesome that you can learn so much about yourself from just chilling the hell out and sitting STILL.
BENEFITS OF YOGA :
The benefits that I began to notice filtered out far beyond the physical and mental aspects within my body. I started to get clarity on what I truly wanted. Began to focus more on the things that felt good and helped me towards my goals. I started performing better at work and my results were apparent to anyone watching.
Try your hand at some introductory yoga, start off with just one session. 10 minutes even. I recommend finding a beginner class if you can, however, if like me your schedule is flat out, just fit it in wherever you can. Yoga is yoga, in a class, in your lounge, in an airport. Just have a go!
