How was ‘The Office Acrobat’ born?
Learning how to efficiently manage your time truly is a life skill, there’s no ‘one size fits all’.
Many of us are struggling with: ‘I just don’t have enough hours in the day’ syndrome.
It’s tough, we know (all too well) that we need to make money to subsidize our financial obligations.
We also know that we should be fitter, healthier and more organized. But, in reality life gets in the way and all too often, interrupts our path to idealistic work-life balance.
My family, my inspiration
I have watched my hard-working, determined and true-grit public service family work their whole lives under immense pressure. Working shift work under unbelievably challenging conditions. Which has inevitably made it incredibly difficult to get up extra early of a morning to organize ‘the perfect green juice’ or balanced vegan superfood menu!
They are busy, out looking after the community, helping everyone else. Shift workers and public sector workers are absolute heroes in my eyes. I often wondered, why it was all so hard for busy people to get access to healthy food and advice on looking after themselves under tough conditions?
Difficult to understand wellness jargon
Why it was always so hard to get good information on how to optimize their time and organize their food, exercise, and wellbeing? Especially in a condensed and easy to understand format. It seems you have to trawl through masses of conflicting information on what’s good for you (this year) and what’s not.
I don’t work shift work, I tried it then quickly realized it wasn’t for me. The 12 hour night shifts in the Ambulance control room were simply too much. Quite how my family does it year in and year out will remain a true mystery to me.
Everything happens for a reason though, my purpose in the Ambulance Service was not to become a Paramedic.
Though somehow helping my family, who do manage to tough out the shift work called out to me. t’s been on my mind ever since my exposure to 12 hour shift work.
I also encountered a similar experience with challenging working conditions in my corporate sales profession. A young career woman, success hungry and fiercely ambitious. I pendulum swung week in and week out between my desires for the next step on the career ladder in business, and my love for wellness and fitness. I searched for information to help me manage both wellness and career advancement and couldn’t find the resources.
A distinct lack of readily available information
What I had come to find, was that it was incredibly difficult to get quick, easy and actionable information on yoga and wellness for busy professionals.
What about the career-hungry professionals who also wanted their piece of zen?
Or the busy workers who want to optimize their time, health and careers?
Career advancement and wellness go hand in hand, busy professionals who are on a tight schedule, need to meditate and chill more than anyone!
I came to the conclusion, that these two phenomena’s’, career and wellness can actually intertwine more than what meets the eye at first glance.
Demanding careers and holistic wellness seem to sit at opposing ends of the spectrum and there’s surprisingly little information available on the combination. Especially on how to master both.
Earn money and live well
Wait a minute I hear you say, can you actually do both? Earn decent money working hard at career success and get your piece of ‘wellness’?
Can you work on connecting to the body, becoming aware of yourself and listening to the signs of what the body is continually speaking out to us about? Eating well and glowing with vitality? Whilst being fiercely independent, working in a job that requires you to push yourself, redefining your boundaries, challenging you mentally and even physically?
The answer is hell yeh! But no, it’s not easy this is simply not a magic wand scenario… Good habits!! They take time.
Career advancement and a healthy balanced body/mind takes work, effort, commitment and ongoing desire to grow and succeed.
My Corporate background
Over a decade of experience in the corporate world, I have seen a lot, learned a lot and done a lot. Progressing in a career that pays well and I am proud to tell you, I have become successful at what I do.
Having worked for some of the top companies around the world, I’ve gained extensive experience in Sales, Account management, Recruitment, and Leadership.
My wellness background
I have also heavily invested in yoga, meditation, travelling alone, completing my yoga teacher training and spent a considerable amount of time in the internal world attempting to make sense of whom I am, why I am here and
how I can grow.
Once I’d discovered my second passion of Vinyassa, my inner voice shouted to me, great! I’ve got it! I’ll teach yoga, this fits perfectly into my new quest for ‘Zen’. I’ll be honest, yes, I had a go at being vegan, I went through a wellness preachy phase.
I studied Massage, Reiki, raw diets, Paleo diets – The lot!
I must have been fairly annoying during this time in all honesty. However what I then realized, is that I did not in fact, want to quit my job to teach yoga full-time.
I wanted a balance.
I wanted the best of both worlds, a healthy body as well as a successful, fulfilling and financially rewarding career.
