In a world wide web full of success stories, it’s worth noting that behind each winning entrepreneur, is a journey.
Most have had struggles along the way and many have entirely failed. If you are hungry for greatness, don’t expect an easy ride.
No one ever said following your dreams are easy. Being the best in the business is a tough slog. Chasing exceptional will certainly push your boundaries in every way imaginable. Career success can be one of the most rewarding gifts your life can bring when you are chasing your dream career.
Here are 10 surprising things that you will find as you progress on your journey towards great success:
You are highly likely to take the WRONG opportunity first
Sometimes, we need to know what we DON’T want, in order to find our way back to what we DO want. Most successful people found their way to the right opportunity through finding and eliminating the WRONG opportunities first. Don’t be afraid to take chances.
2. You will start discovering people who want to see you fail
For all the people who want nothing more than to see you succeed and reach your highest ideals, there are always going to be snakes in the grass watching you from afar. Some people just don’t want to see you succeed. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s true. Learn to spot them and not allow them to sabotage your success by keeping them at arm’s length.
3.You realize that you can’t change the world completely (more specifically, your company)
When you are success hungry, you may become an expert in your field. You probably know a thing or two about the competition and have a lot to offer your organization. However, as time goes on you realize that all the things you want to change for the better, are controlled by other people. Don’t fight against this. Don’t go barking up the wrong tree with the big and powerful seats of the company. Focus on your own role and doing it to the best of your ability, that’s what stands out. As you progress through the ranks you can start to make critical changes, until then; Keep your attention on your own workload and standing out as the best there is, it won’t go unnoticed. Present good ideas in the right way
4. You will get stressed out
Things are tough for people who ‘dare to care’ about their careers and progression. It’s hard to give a toss, much easier to just cease responsibility and not care at all. If you want success there will be times that you get knocked down, have your strategies in place to get you back up on to your feet again and refocused.
5. You’ll likely get hooked on caffeine
No seriously. It just creeps up. One minute it’s the odd tea here and next, the hard stuff, double shot coffees, and emergency instant stashes. That’s ok, you look up the impact of caffeine and you’ll get a 50:50 split… Some say it’s full of good stuff so don’t worry, others say it’s not amazing for you. If you can limit your addiction to the hard stuff in the early stages it will probably help you later on as you progress, however coffee has got me through a whole heap of days that were at the time, questionable as to whether I would have actually been able to make it to 5.30pm.
6. You will learn a lot about yourself and your own resilience
As you make your way through your career, you will face difficult situations, challenging people and put yourself into testing scenarios you never thought you’d face. A new side of yourself will emerge that you did not necessarily know existed. Be as an observer along the way, notice the things about yourself and try to keep a log or a journal, to aid your personal development and watch as you grow.
