Yoga is so much more than just a physical exercise where people put their ankles over their heads and wear psychedelic leggings.
I’ve always been a workaholic, which almost always results in long hours. Throughout the course of my career, I have really struggled to get myself organized.
Weirdly, I’ve never struggled to be organized, I’m always on time for a working day bright eyed and bushy tailed (with the help of strong coffee) and finding myself leaving late to finish important tasks. YET, as soon as that office door is closed, my organization skills just seem to completely diminish!
How is that, useless when it comes to being organized for my own life! Which was only becoming increasingly trickier to manage, especially with all the many growing lists of interests I had and obligations I accumulated.
I also grew up poorly educated when it came to nutrition. I’m typically that annoying friend, late to social events, generally disorganized for activities and never had the right things in the house at the right time; Especially dinner. Thus, leading to poor diet choices.
I would often see these unbelievably well thought out picnic platters with delicately displayed portions of sliced fruit, cheese selections, reserves, freshly prepared seafood, home-made salads and thought, WOW,
how on earth do people have time to do that!
OK, so I’ll be honest, I’m still often the late friend and somewhat disorganized at times, and no I have not mastered the gourmet picnic platter (yet). But, what I will say is; my oh my, does having some yoga chill time help with a large proportion of the contributing factors that led to lateness and organization flaws.
Do you ever feel like you are quite literally running and rushing from one obligation to the next? I could have sworn, between waking up, washing myself, washing my clothes, exercising, working, eating dinner and sleeping… The days are literally almost ‘poof’ gone!?
How is it possible that there’s zero time left for Zen? I would even feel exhausted on the days I did consider chilled, just trying to get everything prepared for the non-stop busy week ahead!
Yoga doesn’t make you less busy (obviously) but yoga does help you STOP and SLOW DOWN within your own body and mind. In these small proportions of time that you stop, you quite literally allow yourself to recover from your busy day YESTERDAY so that you can have a breather and rejuvenate ready for your busy day TODAY.
Without realizing it, we actually NEED yoga or at the very least, the chill time to find the space between all the rushing around our daily lives bring. This enables us to prepare ourselves for the next round, of rushing!
