5 potential ways a Wellness Coach can help you in 2019.
Wellness this and wellness that!
We see it absolutely everywhere, on Instagram, Facebook, ad’s popping up everywhere and YouTube videos swarming the net. Somehow the old school views of health and wellness have been completely modernised and entirely commercialised.
The old ideas of wellness
Instead of someone being the ‘odd one out’ for eating clean, using conscious products, essential oils, being a vegetarian and having a natural glow all over their skin, the wellness movement has taken over!
I remember telling my Mum that I wanted to do yoga and eat clean, she bought me this DVD and I swear the totally outdated graphics aside, this lady was the epitome of a classic hippy and the music just made me laugh. I couldn’t concentrate on the yoga content one bit! Floaty white dress, classic nature music and she couldn’t have possibly looked more like the old school stereotypical hippy!
There really was a classic stereotype attached to being in to ‘wellness’ 10 years ago. But things have moved on.
Now it’s cool to be well.
It’s ‘in’ to be conscious. It’s fun to be healthy, and along came the activewear trend! On the Gold Coast especially, you’ll be lucks to see 10% of the female population wearing normal non-activewear clothing before 6pm! Not only is activewear about a thousand times comfier than real clothes, it also encourages you to get to that yoga class, go for your morning walk, energises you and of course, looks pretty cute!
Back when I was a sporty high jumper, sportswear was certainly NOT considered cool. Popper tracksuit bottoms were a thing. Chunks multicoloured trainers and mac-like rainproof jackets. I’m only 30 but identifying that attire has just made me feel about 100! I was also actually encouraged to eat a Mars Bar before a competition, by my high-level well-respected Coach, so I guess things have come along leaps and bounds since I was a whipper snapper. Clothes, nutrition and stigmas!
The old school vs the new school
So back in the days of popper pants, we didn’t need a Wellness Coach, we all ploughed through life and sucked it all up getting on with things. Why do we need one now? Do we actually need someone to assess if we are well, can’t we just do that ourselves?
Is wellness coaching here to stay?
I believe Wellness Coaching is here to stay. For good reasons. We have learnt so much about nutrition and we are progressing leaps and bounds. Yoga has made a comeback, Naturopaths are exploding on to the scene and Ayurveda and acupuncture are in very high demand. Natural therapies are becoming more prominent in our lives.
Keeping up with our busier lives
We are busier than ever before with obligations to speed up coming from pillar to post. We need more money, we need to do more things to keep up with the fast paced nature of our lives.
So, what the heck is a Wellness Coach?
Explained brilliantly by Wellness Coaching Australia here it’s explained as a supportive relationship, where the Coach can assist you in figuring out what you truly want and how to get you there. Often at a faster pace than you ultimately could achieve without any assistance from a Wellness Coach. Confidence, transformation and behaviour changes to help facilitate growth and positive change in your life.
Offering a variety of support
Wellness Coaches offer many different varieties of support from nutritional, exercise, emotional and lifestyle support practitioners to help people with a variety of different goals. Wellness Coaches are not all the same and have many different specialisms, so it’s important to understand what you want before picking a random Wellness Coach.
I believe that wellness coaches absolutely have a place in the future of our growth, development and health moving forward. Especially as we look to advance our careers, work-life balance, time-management between juggling our many obligations.
Here are 10 ways Wellness Coaches can help:
This sounds broad, however is a bit of a trade secret among yogi’s! Mindfulnessis really a life hack, how to be conscious and aware of what you are doing in your day-to-day, to learn how to choose your focus and expand your feelings of gratitude which can in fact dramatically increase your overall wellbeing.
We all know that diet plays a huge role in our weight, or the rollercoaster that is weight management. However, what sometimes may not be explored, are the other contributing factors to weight gain or loss, like the potential emotional reasons and relationships that we have with particular foods. Wellness coaches specialising in nutrition can take a holistic approach and help with sustainable practices which can help you towards your longer-term goals.
Boy oh boy, am I familiar with this one. Stress can come from a broad number of contributing factors. I’ve generally found heightened stress from work and relationships, which have caused various ailments within my body and mind. Wellness Coaches can be a tonic for those suffering with stress. Focusing not just on the isolated issue, but a Birdseye view of your life and habits and look at ways to improve your methodology with coping mechanisms as well as habit changes. Offering solutions and cures as well as guidance and advice for a less stressful feeling future.
Well this may sound silly, what do you mean I need someone else to tell me my purpose?! It’s not like a Wellness Coach is going to have a psychic experience, meet you once and decide upon first sit down with you that ‘Eureka Rachel, I have now seen your future and you are meant to be an astronaut’. Far from it! However, Wellness Coaches can have a fairly magical impact on finding your purpose by working with you to help you discover what’s holding you back from discovering your full potential on your own. Pointing out barriers you may have put in front of your own path the prevent you from reaching your highest purpose for whatever reason. Sometimes another perspective and impartial party can be just what you need, with techniques to help you figure things out within your own mind to become your greatest version.
Among their many other uses, Wellness Coaches may help you improve your sleep pattern. A good Wellness Coach has a great foundational knowledge of nutrition and lifestyle, have you been struggling with sleep issues? Had difficulties drifting off and rejuvenating in preparation for another round of busy schedules and slaying life? Well a Wellness Coach might be what you need to introduce in to your master plans. There may be something you’re eating, drinking or thinking about that needs a little tweak, or potentially a total rethink in order to achieve the restful sleep you deserve.
